Scottish Powerlifting Open

10984974_10153031007081223_2244400146961710185_nOn Sunday 15th we travelled down to Dumfries for the Scottish Southern Powerlifting open for what was an excellent meet.

The last Open we went to was in a sports hall in Dundee, this time it was in Burns Gym, Dumfries.

Burns Gym is an ‘old school’ strength training facility with everything from barbells to atlas stones to old cars that are used for strongman event training. I think having Burns Gym as the setting for the Southern Open contributed massively to the awesome atmosphere on the day. The lifters were all on good form setting a number of new Scottish records with the hugely supportive crowd shouting encouragement to every single lifter.

I wanted to say a massive well done to coaching client Jolene who competed at the open for her second ever comp. We have worked really hard on technique in order to progress from the first comp 10 months ago and although we had a few set backs (including injuries) she went out and did herself proud.

Although she wouldn’t have mentioned it, she competed with an injured shoulder and still managed to make improvements on each of her lifts. She took everything in her stride and came out with a new PR on Deadlift (+5kg).

Excellent work Jolene!!
